What are the best granite colors for an outdoor kitchen?
Jet Mist, Silver Waves, Silver Gray, Silver Cloud, Steel Gray, Black Pearl, and Absolute Black. All leathered, all dense with no resin fill, and always on our floor. Just about any granite without resin can live outside, so ask us about anything else. Here's our guide to leathered granite
Can quartz go outside?
No. Sunlight breaks down the resin that binds quartz and the color fades. We love quartz in kitchens, and we won't sell it to you for outdoors
Can black granite go outdoors?
Yes, it's our top recommendation. The leathered blacks and grays don't change in the sun and take a scrub brush and a hose. Skip polished in full sun: it gets hot and throws glare.
Granite or quartzite for an outdoor kitchen?
Both live outside. Granite is the proven pick, with our go-to colors always on the floor. Quartzite brings lighter colors and more movement. Come in and compare them side by side.
Can I use marble outside?
Most marble doesn't belong outside. The proven exceptions: Brown Fantasy and River Blue, both hard, both leathered, holding up in Cape Cod outdoor projects for a couple of years now.
What about travertine outdoors?
We'd steer you away in New England. Travertine is full of voids: water gets in, freezes, and pops the stone.
Is limestone good around a pool?
Excellent. It stays cooler in full sun than darker granite, and some, like Jerusalem Gold, are very durable outdoors. It's softer, so we keep it on serving and bar surfaces rather than the grill run.
Can you cut around a Big Green Egg or a drop-in grill?
All the time. Green Egg cutouts, drop-in grills, and fire pit surrounds are regular work, and we template on site with your appliances in place. Got a prefab island with a failing top? We can replace that too.
How do I know my outdoor countertops will match what I picked?
Every job gets a digital layout before we fabricate, no matter the material. You see a digital image of your actual slab, laid out piece by piece with any seams marked, and if there's veining, we adjust until the pattern flows. Nothing moves to fabrication until you approve it
When should I order to have it ready for summer?
Winter or early spring. Fabrication runs the usual 5 to 10 business days from template, depending on size and complexity, but we only template after your base is built and level, and spring books up fast.
Does my base need to be finished before you template?
Yes: finished, flat, and level, and flat matters most. The top follows whatever it sits on, and we don't build or correct bases, so an uneven base shows up as shims and gaps in the finished job. Work that out with your contractor before we template. Get the base right, and the top will look right.
Do you serve my town?
Mostly MetroWest and Greater Boston, but we go all over Massachusetts, and we're willing to travel anywhere in New England for the right job.
