Do you install marble, or just fabricate it?
Both, all in-house. We template, fabricate, and install with our own crew.
Can I buy a marble slab without fabrication?
No. We sell marble as a finished, fabricated and installed countertop, not as a raw slab. It's the only way we can stand behind the result.
Do you serve my town?
Mostly MetroWest and Greater Boston, and we're willing to go anywhere in New England for the right job.
What's the difference between staining and etching?
Staining is liquid absorbing into the stone, and sealing prevents it. Etching is acid dulling the surface, which sealing won't stop, though a honed finish helps it blend in.
Should I get polished or honed marble?
For kitchens, we recommend honed: it hides etching and scratches, while polished looks brighter but shows every mark. On a dry surface like a fireplace surround, either finish is fine.
How often does marble need to be sealed?
Marble tells you when. Drip a little water on it; if it soaks in and darkens instead of beading, it's time to reseal. Usually once or twice a year, and every marble we install comes sealed.
Is marble really that soft?
Softer than granite, quartzite, or quartz, yes, but marble is still stone and plenty strong. Softer just means it scratches and etches a little more easily, so it wants a bit more care, not that it's delicate.
Can I put hot pans on marble?
Marble handles heat and won't scorch, but sudden temperature swings can risk thermal shock. Use trivets as a habit, as you would with any natural stone.
Is marble more expensive than granite or quartz?
It varies. Carrara often lands in the same range as most granite and quartz, while statement marbles like Calacatta and Statuario run higher.
What's the best marble for a busy kitchen?
Marble does fine in a busy kitchen. A honed or leathered finish wears better than a polished one. Come see the slabs and we'll match you to a variety that fits how you cook.
Can you repair marble if it chips or stains?
Yes. Minor chips fill and polish, most stains lift with a poultice, and etching on polished surfaces can often be buffed out.
