It's Never Too Early to Reserve Your Slab

The laundry room usually comes last in a remodel. By then, the slab you had your eye on may already be gone.

About 95% of the countertops we do land between $55 and $150 per square foot installed. Installed is the important word there. That number covers the material, the fabrication, and putting it in your home.

A few materials always run above that range: Blue Bahia granite, Blue Macaubas and Cristallo quartzites, the Calacatta and Statuario Italian marble families, and Onyx.

1. Sourcing: We work with every supplier in the area to find you the best value. When your slab comes out of our own warehouse, you pay a set price per square foot for the footage you use. If we order it in, slabs are sold whole, because that's how the industry sells them. We also keep remnants from bigger jobs, which often suit a laundry room well.
2. Project size: Bigger projects cost more overall, but usually earn better per-square-foot pricing. A laundry room is a small job by nature, so expect it to sit toward the higher end per foot.
3. Complexity: Mitered edges, an undermount utility sink, or a panel running down to the floor on an open side all add fabrication time.
4. Waste: A laundry counter usually runs deeper than a kitchen counter so it covers the full depth of your machines, and a slab yields fewer pieces at that depth. We lay out every cut digitally to get the most usable countertop from each slab, but the material decides how much of it we can use.

Supply and demand sets the rest. What's in fashion costs more, what's fallen out of it costs less. The rare blues are expensive because nature made so little of them, and the Italian marbles because a lot of homeowners want them and there's only so much to go around.

Comparing Quotes?

The service itself, templating, fabrication, edges, and install, runs about $30 to $50 per square foot, and it's fairly consistent across the industry. The big difference between two quotes is almost always the material.

Watch for quotes that don't spell things out, where any change becomes an extra. Watch for a free edge promotion, because that cost is built in somewhere else. If one quote comes in well under another, it's usually a different material or a different brand, not a better deal.
