Westborough was incorporated in 1717 as 100th town in Massachusetts. It was populated at that time by 27 families. Westborough quickly became a flourishing community with large farms and mills build on the fertile lands along banks of the Assabet River, Jackstraw Brook, and Lake Chauncy. Wesborough residents took an active part in the Revolutionary war. The town was home to 27 minutemen who fought under Captain Edmund Brigham for independence from Great Britain.
