Originally settled in 1641, the settlement was first a part of Dedham and was called West Dedham. When in 1897 the town was about to be incorporated, it had a name of Nahatan. However, after the objections from Nahant that the names were too similar, the residents agreed to name their newly independent town Westwood.
Since the early days, Westwood was a prospering and sophisticated town. Its residents greatly value strong community, good education, and vibrant culture.
