Best Stone Backsplash Materials for 2020

A backsplash is one of the defining elements of your kitchen. It complements your countertops, but it also protects the kitchen wall space behind your oven and counters from stains and splatters. From granite to marble, there are many backsplash materials to select from. Here’s what’s hot in 2020.

Granite

Granite is well known for its beauty and durability, available in a wide range of colors and styles. A granite backsplash easily becomes the focal point in any kitchen. Whether you choose dark or light, veining or solid color, you have so many options to choose from. And because it’s one of the toughest and most durable natural stone materials, it stands up to the wear and tear that comes with its duty. It requires light cleaning, and occasional polishing and re-sealing.

Marble

This timeless classic is one of the most beautiful materials you can choose for your backsplash. You will appreciate the elegant veining present that will complement your counters and make a bold statement. You’ll have to stay on top of cleaning, polishing and re-applying sealant twice a year but the end result is well worth it.

Quartzite

An ideal choice for homeowners who want a material that resembles marble, quartzite is also great because it’s got the strength and durability of granite. Often times, quartzite looks so similar to marble that it continually gets confused for being a kind of marble. Available in many different styles and colors, from white and gray to green or blue, there is a type of quartzite out there for you.

Quartz

Quartz is an engineered stone available in a vast array of colors and styles. It happens to be one of the most durable materials you can use for your backsplash. Best part is, you don’t have to seal it like you do with natural stone. That’s because its surface is non-porous. Just don’t expose it to excessive heat, as this can melt the resin.

Soapstone

Available in a range of darker tones, you can find soapstone in dark greens or grays. It’s prone to scratches, but can be sanded out. This material gives your backsplash a soft appearance, and will naturally darken over time.

Limestone

Limestone in your kitchen evokes feelings of light and life. Just be sure to clean up any spills or splatters immediately. Available in lighter colors, such as golds and grays, there’s a lot of variation with your options. It’s not the toughest material you can select, but if you properly care for it, it will remain in excellent shape.

Travertine

With many similarities to limestone, travertine tiling and slabs make great additions to any home. Just like with limestone, travertine adds light and levity to any space. You’ll have to be careful with its care but if you do that, it will last a long time.

As you can see, there are many hot backsplash stones to choose from when looking to complement your kitchen this year!
