11 Creative Uses of Granite and Marble in the Home

When you think of granite and marble, you likely think of kitchen or bathroom countertops. But there are so many more places throughout your home that you can use this natural stone, from half walls to fireplace mantels.

Here are some possibilities to explore when it comes to creative uses of granite and marble in your home.

1.  Built-In Desk

With so many people working from home these days, it’s more important than ever to be comfortable in your home office. To that end, you could create a built-in desk (an L-shaped desk for the corner perhaps?) with a granite or marble desktop offset by a solid dark hardwood desk.

2.  Half-Walls

If you have half-walls separating your entryway from your living room, or maybe the kitchen from the breakfast nook seating areas, you may consider capping them with marble or granite instead of a painted wooden cap.

3.  Laundry Room Counter

If you have a laundry room counter, you can incorporate a granite countertop that adds durability to your daily chores.

4.  Fireplace Mantel and Surrounds

Outfit the surrounds of your fireplace with granite or marble that provides a classy frame, offset by a natural stone mantle on which you can place your family photos and collectibles.

5.  Bar Top

Whether you already have a built-in bar or you plan to build one in your home, forget the classic wooden bar top and use solid marble or granite instead. Mixing drinks and preparing snacks will be a breeze with the durability and beauty of natural stone underneath.

6.  Vanity Top

If you have a vanity in your master suite or walk-in closet, consider adding a marble top to it where you can place your hair and nail accessories as well as other personal effects.

7.  Serving Boards

If you’re looking to incorporate smaller pieces of marble or granite, why not use them for cold stone serving boards? You may not want to actually cut things on there, but natural stone serving boards display your yummy hors d’oeuvres to guests beautifully. Tip: chill the boards before serving to keep your fruits, cheeses and other snacks cool.

8.  Windowsills

There’s nothing more elegant in home design than granite or marble windowsills. Install thin strips of natural stone instead of wood, which can rot and peel paint over time.

9.  Tub and Shower Enclosure

For your shower stall and tub enclosures, add the creamy look of marble or the stately polished look of granite. This cool, smooth stone will welcome you every time you sink into a warm bath or take a refreshing shower. Use the same stone for your bathroom counters for a fluid design.

10.                Shower Seats

Why stop at the enclosure walls? If space allows, install a shower seat crafted out of granite or marble to provide a cool space to relax.

11.                Outdoor Kitchen Surfaces

Granite is the perfect accent for your outdoor kitchen. Surround your built-in grill and bar areas with granite countertops for the ultimate in durability outdoors.
